چکیده

We have compiled a complete extragalactic sample based on ∼ 25, 000 deg to a limiting flux of 3 × 10 ergs cm s (∼ 7, 000 deg to a flux limit of 10 ergs cm s) in the 20 – 40 keV band with INTEGRAL. We have constructed a detailed exposure map to compensate for effects of non-uniform exposure. The flux-number relation is best described by a power-law with a slope of α = 1.66 ± 0.11. The integration of the cumulative flux per unit area leads to f20−40 keV = 2.6 × 10 −10 ergs cm s sr, which is about 1% of the known 20− 40 keV X-ray background. We present the first luminosity function of AGN in the 20–40 keV energy range, based on 38 extragalactic objects detected by the imager IBIS/ISGRI on-board INTEGRAL. The luminosity function shows a smoothly connected two power-law form, with an index of γ1 = 0.8 below, and γ2 = 2.1 above the turn-over luminosity of L∗ = 2.4 × 10 43 ergs s. The emissivity of all INTEGRAL AGNs per unit volume is W20−40 keV(> 10 41 ergs s) = 2.8 × 10 ergs s h70 Mpc . These results are consistent with those derived in the 2− 20 keV energy band and do not show a significant contribution by Compton-thick objects. Because the sample used in this study is truly local (z̄ = 0.022), only limited conclusions can be drawn for the evolution of AGNs in this energy band. Hard X-ray luminosity function and absorption distribution of nearby AGN: INTEGRAL all-sky survey

Aims. We study the hard X-ray luminosity function and absorption distribution of local (z ∼< 0.1) active galactic nuclei (AGN) and discuss the implications for AGN cosmological evolution and for the cosmic X-ray background (CXB). Methods. We use the INTEGRAL all-sky hard X-ray survey to perform a statistical study of a representative sample of nearby AGN. Our entire all-sky sample consists of 1...

The Relationship of Hard X-ray and Optical Line Emission in Low Redshift Active Galactic Nuclei

In this paper we assess the relationship of the population of Active Galactic Nuclei (AGN) selected by hard X-rays to the traditional population of AGN with strong optical emission lines. First, we study the emission-line properties of a new hard X-ray selected sample of 47 local AGN (classified optically as both Type 1 and Type 2 AGN). We find that the hard Xray (3-20 keV) and [OIII]λ5007 opti...

A Focused, Hard X-ray Look at Arp 299 with Nustar

We report on simultaneous observations of the local starburst system Arp 299 with NuSTAR and Chandra, which provides the first resolved images of this galaxy up to energies of ∼ 45 keV. Fitting the 3–40 keV spectrum reveals a column density of NH ∼ 4×10 24 cm, characteristic of a Compton-thick AGN, and a 10−30 keV luminosity of 1.2×10 ergs s. The hard X-rays detected by NuSTAR above 10 keV are ...

Does the obscured AGN fraction really depend on luminosity?

We use a sample of 151 local non-blazar active galactic nuclei (AGN) selected from the INTEGRAL all-sky hard X-ray survey to investigate if the observed declining trend of the fraction of obscured (i.e. showing X-ray absorption) AGN with increasing luminosity is mostly an intrinsic or selection effect. Using a torus-obscuration model, we demonstrate that in addition to negative bias, due to abs...

Hard X-ray Variability of AGN

Aims. Active Galactic Nuclei are known to be variable throughout the electromagnetic spectrum. An energy domain poorly studied in this respect is the hard X-ray range above 20 keV. Methods. The first 9 months of the Swift/BAT all-sky survey are used to study the 14 – 195 keV variability of the 44 brightest AGN. The sources have been selected due to their detection significance of > 10σ. We test...
